Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport keeps champion athlete’s new business running

Former sprinter Jamie Baulch is enjoying a new lease of sporting life, courtesy of his Mercedes Benz Vito Sport.

Jamie retired from competition in 2005 and is now the owner of sports management, memorabilia, and PR companies.

His latest venture, with partner Cheryl Hicks, is sports silent auction specialist Bid-In. Jamie, who operates from an office in Cardiff Bay, is using the Vito Sport van to transport sporting and other memorabilia – such as signed prints, artwork and shirts – to fund-raising events nationwide.

The subject of a sponsorship agreement with Euro Commercials, Jamie’s Vito Sport 116 CDI rides on 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, and features colour-coded bumpers, a chrome grille, sidebars, and other trim.

Power comes from a 2.1-litre twin-turbo diesel which transmits its 163hp output to the road via an optional 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox. Offering 380 Nm of torque, Mercedes-Benz says the van is capable of 47.1mpg (combined cycle). Meanwhile, standard safety equipment includes Adaptive ESP®, Attention Assist, Crosswind Assist, and driver and passenger airbags.

“I’ve had some very nice cars in the past but as a vehicle that suits my lifestyle this Vito Sport beats them all,” said Jamie. “It’s very engaging and drives beautifully, with a quality of smoothness and comfort I wouldn’t have thought possible from a van.

“The cab has the look and feel of a quality car, and is well appointed and spacious – Cheryl’s six feet tall and her son is six feet, four, yet neither feels squeezed in.”

He continued: “The Vito is also very practical, of course. Its cargo area is just the right size for my requirements, while the livery is certainly helping me to generate new business leads.”
