DPD opens first electric depot in Westminster

Parcel delivery company DPD has opened the UK’s first all-electric parcel depot in Westminster and has announced plans for a further seven all-electric sites throughout London.

The new 464m2 facility will have the capacity to deliver 2,000 parcels a day utilising an all-electric fleet. DPD has invested over £500,000 refurbishing the site, including the introduction of an electric charging system that will enable the deployment of electric vehicles without major infrastructure upgrades. The electric vehicles operating from the site will be a mixture of FUSO eCanters, Nissan eNV200s and Paxsters, Norwegian-built micro-vehicles.

DPD says these last-mile deliveries will initially see a reduction of 45 tonnes of CO2 per annum, and will help the business prepare for the introduction of central London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone in April 2019.
