Renault will launch a new Kangoo van range later this year, boasting a revolutionary side door arrangement. Available in conjunction with the folding mesh bulkhead and fold-flat passenger seat, the Open Sesame side door does away with the traditional B pillar behind the front door, providing a 1.45m wide opening. Vans without the larger door opening can also be supplied with an internal roof rack, capable of holding up to 30kg, for ladders and pipework.
The new Kangoo will be offered with petrol and diesel engines, using six-speed manual and seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmissions. There will also be an updated electric version, now known as Kangoo E-Tech, boasting a 44kW battery and a rapid-charging capability. Maximum payloads increase to almost 1-tonne and the vans will be offered with a wide range of ADAS driver safety and assistance systems.
Renault will also show its first Master Z.E. electric van with a hydrogen fuel cell later this year. The combination of a battery and the fuel cell should see operating range rising to more than 310 miles. The company is working with Plug Power to help customers install hydrogen infrastructure.
