Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has established a mobility service and autonomous driving division under the LCV business, as it pushes for further growth in the light commercial sector. The company has also announced that it will produce a Caddy-based city van for Ford, under the cooperation between the two manufacturers, while Ford will build a 1-tonne model for VW alongside its next Transit Custom. The next generation Ford Ranger pick-up will also form the basis for a new Volkswagen Amarok, when the company returns to the pick-up sector. Of greater importance, will be the introduction of the full electric ID.Buzz, as both a people carrier and a light commercial, later this year.

“Our vehicles are the logical first place of use for autonomous systems,” said Carsten Intra, VWCV CEO. “We anticipate seeing autonomous systems from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in commercial use by 2025.
