Volkswagen’s fifth-generation Caddy van has been launched in the UK, offering increased load volume, lower emission drivelines, increased safety technology and an improved driver experience. The standard van has a longer wheelbase, with more load length, while new suspension has resulted in more width between the wheelarches.
There are three diesel engines, offering 75hp, 102hp and 122hp, plus a petrol with 114hp. Twin SCR catalytic converters on diesel models result in even lower NOx emissions. All get six-speed manual gearboxes, with a seven-speed DSG transmission as an option. The 122hp engine can also be matched to VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system, which makes a return to the UK market.
A totally new interior, with flush fitted screen and VW’s Digital Cockpit on top models, is combined with increased ADAS availability. Caddy 5 launches a new naming policy within Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, with a Commerce model being the entry level, followed by Commerce Plus and Commerce Pro. It is also possible to add the popular Business pack to the Commerce trim.
