Technology supplier Marston Holdings has recorded a 13.4% year-on-year fuel saving, having equipped its vehicles with Michelin Connected Fleet on-board telematics. The system has led to a 14% drop in engine idling across the company’s 1,400 vans, cars and trucks. The data collected from the telematic system has also led to a 9% reduction in fleet size, thanks to improved asset utilisation.
“We’re using Michelin Connected Fleet to monitor the data from all our vehicles to make sure we get consistent information,” said Lee Jackson, head of fleet and transport at Marston.
“It gives us absolute confidence in the data to assess, validate and verify our operations, directly supporting us to make decisions which help the business to become more sustainable.”
Marston provides technology solutions to more than 500 local authorities across the UK, along with central government and private sector organisations. The company operates 650 vans, 350 cars, 300 scooters and 150 trucks, all of which are monitored by the telematic system.
Smart data gathered from Michelin Connected Fleet covering daily mileage, usage, range and terrain, is also helping the company in its transition to an electric fleet, factoring in charging infrastructure, downtime and range. So far, Marston has been able to increase the size of its electric and hybrid fleet by 17% year-on-year.
